On 8 April 2026, a fire at the Vuka Skhokho Alexandra headquarters destroyed the operational base and claimed the life of Bonita Schmidt, mother of the late Jermaine Lungile Schmidt. The Foundation was established in 2016 in Jermaine's memory, and Mama B was the matriarch and emotional heart of the organisation. The fire also destroyed organisational records, programme materials, and the physical hub from which Vuka Skhokho coordinates its soup kitchen, secondary care programme, and ECD play school. 
The Orange Farm site for which we are trying raise money was initially going to serve as our first recycling center.
We'd been looking to launch at the end of July but the fire in Kelvin set us back immensely.
We have all the machinery needed for a recycling but the state of the Orange Farm site needs a lot of work.
We are turning Orange Farm into our new Headquarters, soup kitchen and ECD and need all the help we can get. Volunteers, in kind donations like paints, cement, fencing and of course fundraising.
