Help Elyah Shine Without Fear 💖
Our daughter, Elyah Brits, was born with a Port Wine Stain (PWS) birthmark covering the right side of her face and eye. A Port Wine Stain is not a normal birthmark that fades with time — it is a vascular malformation caused by abnormal blood vessels and it worsens as a child grows.
At the moment, Elyah is still young. She smiles easily, laughs freely, and does not yet understand the curious stares or unkind remarks from strangers. But as her parents, we carry a heavy fear for her future if her treatment cannot be maintained.
What happens if treatment stops?
According to Elyah’s dermatologist, Dr Ean Smit, untreated Port Wine Stains:
Darken from pale pink to deep red or blue-purple
Thicken and grow with age
Can begin bleeding spontaneously
May lead to further complications later in life
