Raising funds for 27 000 books
The Franschhoek Literary Festival (FLF) has set itself an ambitious target for its school library programme, Franschhoek Reading. In 2024 and over the next couple of years, we will be raising funds to buy 27 000 books, thereby meeting the South African school library standard of 10 books per learner at each of the four schools we support!
To date we have bought 7 000 books, a fair achievement. Nevertheless, many of these have been eagerly overused and now need to be replaced. Libraries are also living entities in continual need of renewal, bound to keep up to date with the kind of new knowledge and broadly relevant content that keep minds engaged and children aware of opportunities for broader fulfilment throughout life.
