Enforce the Ruling: Unlock Cannabis Justice Now
The Constitutional Court ruled in 2018 that adults have the right to use, possess and cultivate cannabis in private. 7 years later that right remains meaningless. Ras Garreth Prince and the Rastafari Nation Council are returning to the Western Cape High Court to enforce it.
2018 Victory & the Ongoing Struggle
In 2018 the Constitutional Court unanimously ruled that criminalising cannabis use, possession and cultivation by an adult in a private place violates the right to privacy. 7 years later, between 260 and 315 South Africans are still arrested every single day for exercising this right. Between 65% and 70% of those arrests are withdrawn before trial — clear admissions of no legal foundation. Each person was still detained, fingerprinted and charged. Cannabis plants are routinely destroyed without warrant, without notice, and without judicial oversight — entire growing seasons, family livelihoods and irreplaceable genetic heritage lost.
