About This Campaign
Cobus Bisschoff was born with a broken heart — literally.
Cobus has been a fighter since he was born with severe cardiac defects in 1989. After a childhood with a pacemaker and a full heart transplant at 21, he spent a decade living a beautiful, full life with his friends and family.
That life was stolen on October 18, 2020. His body began rejecting his transplanted heart, triggering a massive cardiac arrest. Because his pacemaker was disconnected and switched off, it couldn't intervene. He was left without oxygen for over an hour before doctors could finally resuscitate him.
The resulting brain damage is permanent. Now 36, Cobus will never regain his independence. While there are rare glimpses of the man he used to be, the reality is that I would give anything for just one more day with my brother as he was. But because I can't have that, my family and I are fighting to make sure he is safe, loved, and cared for now.
