Some years ago, a little burn survivor named Patience was lying in her hospital bed, crying as she waited for a painful bandage change. The distress rippled through the whole ward.

Then, softly, a joy facilitator began singing Patience’s favourite song, Jesus Loves Me. She softened. Her breathing steadied. Through a loop of song, care and connection, she stayed stayed softly in joy — and the fear began to ease. Weeks later, Patience was watching more Joy Facilitators playing with walkie-talkies. She picked one up herself. And then she began singing. This time, to another little boy who was distressed with his own bandage change.

That is the ripple effect of joy.
