Women In Journalism

The South African’s Women in Journalism programme will provide freelance work opportunities and the potential to gain full-time employment support to largely (but not exclusively) women students under the age of 25.

In 2020, before the inception of the Women in Journalism programme, The South African supported dozens of students via its #gig4students project. It provided much needed income to students affected during the hard lockdown and economic downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

We have relaunched our student media project with a specific focus on Women in Journalism. And through this exciting initiative, The South African aims to empower young women writers. We also want to promote diversity in media, to better represent women in society.

Additionally, the programme has also been established to encourage young women writers to cast their nets wide by venturing into different beats to gain on-the-job experience.
